Tongue & Groove

Who are Tongue and Groove?

Phil Rhodes

Phil Rhodes (a.k.a. The Fox) was exposed to The Blues Brothers in 1985 after having failed at being a Mod or a Nutty Boy. He was a late developer in the music scene and has been making up for it ever since. Since breaking both his wrists entering the stage by swinging from the rafters with the legendary Do-nuts in the late 80's, he left his City job to ski downhill ( yes - that's the dangerous one) for England. A spectacular fall from a balcony through a glass sandwich counter in Tottenham Court Road whilst performing for Sammy Rat's Big Big Blues Band resulted in a hand-cuffed exit to spend the night in Holburn Police Station … a rather unusual way to celebrate his birthday and discover Shakespeare. Phil then trained as a classical actor and has run his acting, music, writing and teaching career alongside every since. (Not to mention his International Production career that blossomed in the late 90's and ended on a padded sofa in Greece via India and Nepal).

"Tongue & Groove" is an experience he concludes, and so it must be as he has now found a way of blending showmanship, music, sex, danger, explosions and raw energy in one shimmering, pulsating vessel.

Ikea icon, Polish film star … soon to appear in the feature "Carmen's Kiss" and on "The Bill" … Phil is one busy, busy Fox.

Andy Roughton

Andy started playing guitar at the age of 15. During the 1980's he played in a number of original bands including for Buick Circus Hour (ex-Primal Scream) and Phil Wilson. During the early 1990's Andy became involved with the blossoming dance and electro music scene and wrote music and played material for Neptune and Tribal Energy. In 2004 Andy joined Ziggy and the Spiders a David Bowie tribute band, which included Richie Nice. Andy is also a yoga teacher, please see Hove Yoga or Brighton and Hove Yoga for further details about yoga.

Richie Nice

Richie combines his bass-playing duties with a day job as an undertaker, which may explain his penchant for wearing top hats. He first discovered colourful clothing back in the 1980s with psychedelic revivalists The Silence, and further developed his passion for all things retro with London loungecore legends Draylon. Having reunited with former cohort Andy Roughton in Ziggy and the Spiders, the duo then teamed up with Phil "The Fox" in 2004 to create the ultimate party band and psychedelic performance experience.
